Journal: JOIKING

To what extent can our visceral emotions transcend language? Is it possible to "understand" without comprehending the words? Write a bit about language and emotion -- in what ways is language "impoverished" when it comes to expressing emotion? Cold music be considered a language? What other things might transcend language, in that we wouldn't need to understand the words being said to understand the intention?

Music is far more powerful than language. Reason being, it arouses human emotion and feeling when listening; there is a connection between the listener and the song. Visceral emotion that exists within a song can help you understand even if the song is in a different language. For example, I occasionally listen to Korean music. I can say honestly that I do not speak a word of Korean. But I absolutely love the music because there is still the same emotion behind the song. This means that I feel sad or reassured with a slow song, or hyped up with a faster song. You feel this with the change in pitch whether it is in a minor or major key. With this in mind, I believe that our emotions are more powerful than language. In music you can convey so much more.
